Welcome to AFE-RGK, the coin find database of the Romano-Germanic Commission (RGK) of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI).
What is AFE?
AFE is developed by the RGK in cooperation with the Frankfurt Big Data Lab at Goethe University Frankfurt/Main (Karsten Tolle), together with the project "Finds of Roman Coins in Poland FRD-PL", Institute of Archaeology, University of Warsaw (Aleksander Bursche), the Kompetenzzentrum antike Numismatik in Baden-Württemberg, Heidelberg University (Susanne Börner), as well as the Institute of Archaeological Sciences at ELTE University, Budapest (Lajos Juhász).
Which data does AFE-RGK collect?
While additional datasets are being added, AFE-RGK primarily focuses on ancient coins found in Germany outside the Roman Empire that are collected and published within the RGK project Corpus der Römischen Funde im Europäischen Barbaricum (CRFB). AFE-RGK serves as the numismatic module for the CRFB online database, to which it is linked.
Linked Open Data
AFE applies the concepts of stable numismatic identifiers and the methodologies of Linked Open Data developed by the project Nomisma.org, and is embedded in the Linked Open Data ecosystem by using resources such as iDAI.bibliography for bibliographic data and iDAI.gazetteer and GeoNames for geographic data.
